There is nothing deeper than a child's imagination...children have no concept of "impossible". The idea that you can't dig a hole to China never crosses their mind...give 'em a bucket and a shovel and off they go, ready and willing to dig and dig until they get there. Wouldn't it be great if we could keep that sense of destiny and can-do spirit throughout our lives?

Great picture! I do love the idea of a long scrolling picture on blogs.

The idea resonates for me - when I was very young, I tried to dig through to Australia, then I modified the ambition to digging for buried treasure...then my spade hit something that seemed jolly exciting...it was a water pipe.

How absolutely wonderful! We used to dig to China, my cousin and I...hoping to come out on the other side upside down and being able to eat dessert FIRST!

Your image is fantastic!

WOW ... amazing image and concept. I try to keep that sense of destiny by having slogan "Never give up" - which is somewhat depressing compared to digging to China.

Like this one a lot. It reminds me too (as does others above apparently) of a time I spent in my sandbox... After digging for a while once, I discovered a blade of grass beneath a mound of sand... I was SURE it was China.

Great image - it brings back memories for so many.

This is so neat! My son was just asking the other day if it were possible to do this. I guess it is!

How true that is! When I was very young, we moved into an old house that had a coal bin in the basement for the furnace. My father told me and my brother that diamonds came from coal under pressure, so a few days later we took a few of those black lumps and put them under the car tires in the driveway. We thought for sure that when my dad drove over them on the way out, he'd leave behind a few diamonds. I'll let you figure out te rest...

This is a great illustration of the childhood belief in possibility. I love the contrast between the inner and outer earth, and that determined little figure almost at her goal. My only question...didn't her parents notice she had disappeared into that hole she was digging? Thanks for sharing this delightful and inspiring illustration.

My own hole to China is back in the old neighborhood somewhere...I've misplaced the bucket and shovel though. A wonderful idea rendered expertly!

Fantastic illustration - it's funny noticing the national differences - here in the UK you dig a hole to Australia

This piece is incredible. Love the crisp and geometric feel to it. Nice job.
