I don't want to sound condescending, but here's the truth of it: Four years of art classes in high school, two years of art lessons, four years of art college, three years as a staff illustrator in a studio, ten years as a freelance illustrator, a week reading the manuscript, a day or two gathering reference and doing rough sketches, a day or two revising the sketches, hours on the phone to the art director, refining the drawing, a week or so doing the painting, shipping the painting, and getting paid. Answer; not too long.
Wonderful... You've posted such wonderful illustrations, but I think this one ranks as my favorite of yours. Your response to Rick was not condescending; just reflective of a lifetime of training and experience that percolates/translates into finished pieces.
Very effective!!!!! I am all crazy about those colours and effects. How in earth did you create that under wave creature look so, so mystic and... and those sky eggects. This is so scifi that I must say, you have the power.
My goodness Rick...is that all it takes? Just many, many years of schooling and lots of experience (oh yeah..and oodles of talent)? All kidding aside...this is absolutely amazing...very spooky and very cool. Your work always blows me away, and I'd be hard pressed to pick just one as a favorite, but this would defintely be up there. Wow!
